The Tipping Point and Networking
Making current connections work for your business growth
I am currently reading The Tipping Point by Malcolm Gladwell. It is a book that was suggested about 4 years ago and it was on my mind the last few months so I went to the library and checked it out. That brings up a point for inexpensive self growth I have mentioned in a previous article. Your local library is a great resource for books, tapes or seminars that are easy on your budget. The book was checked out for 3 weeks and sat on the table because at first it looked like boring dry reading. I finally picked it up and now cannot put it down although I am only in the first chapter. The first bit of information that has been learned was having variety in your network.
As I was growing up I moved every two years and always had friends from different school years and backgrounds. To this day people wonder where my knowledge of events or people come from. It comes from my vast network of friends. Generally in life there are many times to reach out to friends from many areas and backgrounds. Especially in this economy people are looking to support their local economy. When you have a broad network you may have friends that meet needs like remodeling your house, a new dentist, a massage therapist, and much more. After reading the first chapter I realize having a broad network of people helps when you are growing a business.
When you travel for business or pleasure you can call upon your friends in various cities to catch up, show you around, or introduce you to more new friends. This is how your network grows. In the latest issue of The Tipping Point there are real life stories of the principles in action that people have shared.
I realized in growing a business my networks are the same networks to look for help. If you are a new entrepreneur think about the vast network you may already have to help you grow.
Have you read The Tipping Point? Let me know what you learned.
